Aman Bhutani – President of Brand Expedia Group, will share his authentic and unique perspectives about what it means to “Be Better Every Day”. He’ll speak to why gender equality is critical in thriving businesses today and what he, and Expedia, is doing about this global necessity.

Bio’s of speakers:

April Drake – April started her career in technology in the early 90’s, building websites for small businesses while completing a degree in Chemistry at the University of Washington. She worked as a software test engineer at Microsoft for a number of years before moving into program management. During her tenure at Microsoft she earned an Outstanding Award in Trustworthy Computing for her focus on Reliability. She started at Zillow Group in late 2016 as a Principal Program Manager, after a brief tenure at Amazon as a Senior Technical Program Manager working in fintech. She works in the Security and Compliance team in IT, and is in her last year of an MBA program in IT Management at WGU. April lives with her husband and 2 small children in Newcastle, Washington.

Lisa Johansen – Lisa Johansen is a Group Manager at Zillow leading the teams that intake and process the listing data that powers Zillow Group sites and analytics. Starting her career in network security research in academia, Lisa moved to Hewlett-Packard and then to Expedia as a software engineer realizing her passion for leadership alongside building services and architecting systems.

Debbie Dubrow – Debbie is a Senior Software Development Manager at Zillow and mom to three kids. Her team is responsible for growing Zillow’s audience by building engaging user experiences that make our paid advertising more efficient. Prior to transitioning into a Development Manager role, she was the Product Manager responsible for developing Zillow’s home seller strategy.

We’ll kick the evening off with a talk from one of Seattle’s software engineers, Seda Unal Calargun, about the history of women in computing and her own story . Following that, we’ll participate in a Lean In activity where we’ll get to know each other and share our experiences. Lastly, we’ll hear from a great lineup of @TwitterSeattle panelists who are excited to share their experiences and personal journeys: how they got here and why they love their current positions.
Come prepared with questions – we’ll open it up to the floor at the end for Q&A. We hope you finish the night with some new friends, knowledge and ideas!

REI is thrilled to be hosting our first Seattle Girl Geek Dinner.

Please join us on May 5th for some food, beverages, networking opportunities, and tech talks at our new IT Office in Eastgate. The dinner will include presentations from leaders in our Information Technology and Digital Retail departments, plus, a Keynote from REI’s Chief Information Officer, Julie Averill. Following Julie’s Keynote, we will host a panel discussion moderated by Laura Swapp, Director of Public Affairs and Next Generation Marketing. Please bring your questions for the Q&A portion of the panel discussion.

Adaptive Mobile Apps: Jie Jin, Senior Software Engineer

Jie Jin is currently an engineer on Twitter’s Fastest App team, working primarily on the Twitter app for Android. Previously, Jie has worked on the API framework at Twitter. Jie has previously presented tonight’s tech talk nationally at Twitter Flight 2015. Jie holds degrees in Computer Science and Philosophy from Carnegie Mellon University.

Periscope: Sara Haider, Staff Software Engineer

Sara Haider is currently the client engineering lead at Periscope, overseeing Android, iOS, and web engineering teams. Previously, Sara worked on Twitter for Android, and she led the engineering teams for Vine for Android and Secret for Android. She founded Twitter’s Women in Engineering group and is an advisor to Girls Who Code, a non-profit organization focused on inspiring young girls to pursue and stay in engineering fields. Sara also advises and angel invests in startups in San Francisco, New York City, and Toronto. Sara holds a degree in Software Engineering and Cognitive Science from the University of Waterloo.

Disney is delighted to welcome Seattle Girl Geek Dinner to our “Mouse House” located downtown at 4th and Madison for an evening of learning, networking and celebration of the Girl Geek.
