Light a Fire with IGNITE!

Seattle Girl Geek Dinners and IGNITE are excited to partner in our first fundraising event to support IGNITE’s mission: to educate and increase exposure of STEM related careers to young girls.

IGNITEâ„¢(Inspiring Girls Now In Technology Evolution) is a nonprofit educational program that addresses the lack of women in STEM related careers. Originally launched in the Seattle School District, IGNITE’s program connects school-age girls to professional women in STEM careers who act as role models and mentors. IGNITE’s founder, Cathi Rodgveller (M.S. Ed.), has been recognized multiple times for her inspirational work including the Anita Borg’s Social Impact Award in 2012 and the Women’s eNews “21 Leaders for the 21st Century” in 2009. Since 1999, IGNITE has grown from a local presence in Seattle Public Schools to internationally with chapters as far away as Nigeria. With Cathi’s leadership and hundreds of volunteers, IGNITE has touched the lives of over 20,000 girls.

Seattle Girl Geek Dinners community and IGNITE have formed a partnership to achieve the following:

Volunteerism: Increase the number of mentors and event volunteers for IGNITE programs
Company sponsorship: To seek financial endorsement from corporations for IGNITE programs to continue to grow and make an impact at a local and international level

It is our job, as a community to increase the the representation of women in STEM and support educational programs that inspire the next generation of women on the career options available to them in the fields of science and engineering.

Please join us for an evening of networking and fun, as we tour the Microsoft museum and hear the founder of IGNITE, Cathi Rodgveller, discuss the IGNITE mission, program, and how we, as a local women’s community can impact the future of women in STEM related careers. We’ll even hear directly from the IGNITE Alumni! Drinks and light refreshments will be served.

Thank you to PACE Staffing for sponsoring this event and making this fundraiser possible!

Date: May 16, 2013
